Cotton:

Wool:

Wool is a natural fiber known for its excellent moisture absorption. Studies show that wool absorbs moisture better than many synthetic and natural fibers like cotton and silk under various temperature and humidity conditions. However, thick wool fibers, typically larger than 20 microns in diameter, can feel "itchy" and "stinging," making it unsuitable for close-to-skin wear, especially in warmer seasons. Spandex:

Nylon:

Polyester:

Polyester is a popular fabric for moisture-wicking clothing. It has good breathability, is resistant to wrinkles and shrinkage, and is durable after multiple washes. Polyester can maintain bright colors and feel new for longer, and it's less likely to deform or pill. Its versatility makes it a top choice for activewear.

How Moisture-Wicking Clothing Works?

During exercise, sweat gets drawn away from your skin and onto the fibers of your shirt. If you’re wearing natural fabrics like cotton, the moisture is absorbed into the fibers, leaving the shirt feeling damp and heavy. Moisture-wicking fabrics, like polyester, utilize a process called “capillary action”. These fabrics act like channels, pulling sweat to the outer layer of the fabric where it can evaporate. Because different fabrics have various advantages and disadvantages, many moisture-wicking clothes on the market are made from blends of synthetic materials like polyester, nylon, and spandex. The performance of these fabrics depends on the specific blend and proportions used. The higher the percentage of moisture-wicking materials like polyester or nylon in a blend, the better the performance. A blend containing around 50% synthetic fibers is good, but 70% or more means excellent moisture-wicking capabilities.
